Twitter Follower Counts For Fox News GOP Primary Debaters

While it’s hardly an exact science, I was wondering about Twitter and how it can be used to judge the clout of a political candidate. Since tonight’s debate in South Carolina will kick off the Republican presidential primary election, I decided to take a look at the five hopefuls that will be participating. I was kind of surprised at what I found.

Ron Paul easily leads the pack with the highest total, but still isn’t above 50k followers — a relatively meager count, considering that many reality stars are wellabovethat.

A respectable count for a man that most people have never heard of. Pawlenty has been pegged here and there as a sleeper candidate… but after hearing the guy speak, I think I know what they meant instead. Lots of Al Gore jokes to come.

Herman Cain, THE former Don of Godfather Pizza, brings up the middle of the pack. He will likely be the best part of the debates tonight and I can see him quickly amassing followers if he does well.

Not gonna lie… I’m not a big fan of this guy. So I will take pleasure in pointing out that Santorum has got a long way to go before he has as many followers as this Pomeranian.

I want to make a crack about this Johnson and his paltry amount of followers. But after a quick bit of research, I discovered he’s full steam ahead for marijuana decriminalization. Right on.
