DAVID BLAINE’S DIVE OF BULLSHIT
This home video tells you all you need to know about what a crock this whole spectacle was last night. Listen to the reactions of the crowd, he actually gets booed! I got suckered in, like I usually do, and watched the whole thing, which was pretty hit or miss. Most of the street magic I had seen before. He did have a few new tricks, but his schtick of impressing loud people in urban areas is starting to seem repetitive.
I gotta say though… catching a bullet in his mouth and taking two gut punches from Kimbo Slice was pretty awesome, one million times more impressive and engaging than the actual “Dive of Death”. Based on what we the audience were given as a payoff, a more accurate title would have been: David Blaine’s “Slow and Extremely Safe Bungee Jump to the Ground with Securely Attached Cables”.
During the broadcast, I was getting a little pissed off at the host for never explaining what exactly The Dive was going to consist of, only that it was ‘the most dangerous stunt ever in the history of everything’. Well, it’s obvious now why he was so obtuse. If ABC told you that the big stunt would actually just be David Blaine getting lowered to the ground by cables and then taken away by balloons, I doubt anyone would have watched.
Oh yeah, and he took breaks every hour from hanging upside down.
