What’s Playin’ Today

SPOOOOOOOOOONNN!!!

I love discovering bands that have been around for a while. After you find out you actually like them, there’s tons of material already for you to work your back through. I’ve know about Spoon since high school, but never gave them much of a chance. I got really into Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga over the summer, and since that album I’ve been really enjoying going through the rest of their catalogue.

There’s still a lot of mid-90s stuff I have to listen to, but right now I think that Kill the Moonlight is my favorite. I find their minimalist songwrithing approach refreshing. They find ways to make so much out of so little. My Little Japanese Cigarette Case is the simplest song in the world when you break it down to its core elements, but the sum of its parts is incredibly dense and catchy. It’s like When Doves Cry in that sense. Spoon rules.
