Happy Birthday to Me
26 years old on the 26th of January. I remember thinking about this day when I was younger, wondering what kind of person I would be like. Seems like I’m pretty much the same. I thought I would have more facial hair at this point.
I started off the festivities last night, going to see The Homecoming on Broadway. My parents got me the tickets - a nice, classy present. Great seats too, about seven rows back in the stately Cort Theatre on 48th St. in Times Square. It was the closest I’ve sat to a stage and I was especially excited to see Ian McShane up close and personal, being the fan of Deadwood that I am. The play was amazing. I’ve decided that I need to do that more often. It may be expensive, but it’s totally worth it. Plays are so organic and intimate. It’s a new beast every night.
Right now, just passing some time watching the X-Games, waiting for the festivities to begin tonight. I’m impressed with this remote camera they have that follows the snowboarders on a zipline. It’s similar to what the NFL does, only this camera moves down a mountain instead of across a football field. It really gives you a sense of how fast these guys are traveling and the scale of their effort. They also have Snowboarding Cameramen(!) that follow the athletes on snowboards of their own…Xtreme.
All of this is impressive, but in my mind, the X-Games still falls a little short of the Olympics. Shaun White is no Alberto Tomba.
